Narrative and Motion Graphics - Art Lesson Plan
Video storytelling combines visual elements and auditory elements to convey messages, often with text images and some visual effects.
Overview
This course is about teaching a person who has no knowledge of painting to learn basic drawing skills and how to draw a complete artwork. This class focuses on computer art but allows students to apply this concept to other tools.
01
Class Principles
The class materials focus on the Coherence Principle. I simplified the whole drawing process by using six related sketches. The class shows the Multimedia Principle, which states that students learn best from texts and pictures rather than words alone. It also shows the Image Principle. The drawing process video only has the process of drawing rather than showing the talking head of an instructor.
02
Painting Tools
Adobe Photoshop, Procreate, SAI, etc.
Although the painting tools are different, the painting process is the same. Students can learn about the basic painting process through this class and apply it to other software.
Target Audience
Students have no drawing knowledge.
Learning Goals
Students can understand basic painting processes, which will allow them can understand how to start and finish an artwork. They can use the concept in other painting tools.

The Basic Drawing Class
Class Materials:
-
A whole drawing process recording video.
-
This video shows how to draw and color a painting from a draft. Although the whole process may seem complex, it can be broken down into six steps.
-
-
Break down steps sketches.
-
All the drawing process can be generalized as four steps: draft - color it - detailed it - finish. But for better understanding and to show more detail, I prefer to break it into six steps.
-

1. Draft: determining what you want to draw

2. Color: Simply add plain color to the draft

3. Adjust Color: For better visual effects, you can change the line's color.

4. Changing Color: Changing the original color to another color.

5. Detail: Add shadows and highlights to a surface to make the painting with depth.

6. Finish: Add some decoration and some other elements to give the painting more information.
